Hello 2022, what do you have in store?
I decided to welcome the new year from up high, literally, strolling around an observation deck at the top of a Supertree at Gardens by the Bay and then followed by an amazing walk along the OCBC Skyway, also at Gardens by the Bay. I was very lucky to be up there at the best time, around early sunset at slightly past 6pm and the sun came out perfectly, making for the prettiest views. What a way to welcome the new year. :)
Here’s to new beginnings, new stories waiting to be told and new chapters to be written. Let’s go, 2022.
OCBC Skyway
I visited both the skyway and the observatory on the same day and while both are pricey attractions for what you get, I really enjoyed the experience! I have to say though, that I liked the skyway a lot more!
This might have something to do with the timing, because I was up on the skyway around slightly past 6pm and it so happened that the sun was starting to go down, the light was hitting just right, and it just made for the most perfect views when I was up there. My snapshots are just a memory of the actual views on the day. :)
The OCBC Skyway is shorter than the Supertree Observatory, but it felt more expansive and I loved walking along in between several Supertrees. On the day I went, it actually started to rain right when I got to Gardens by the Bay and they don’t allow visitors up both the Skyway and the Observatory when it’s raining. Thankfully after waiting it out for a while, the rain stopped and I still got these beautiful views. :)

Supertree Observatory
The Supertree Observatory, as you can tell from my photos, is higher than the Skyway and basically consist of a relatively small rounded walkway atop one Supertree with city views of the Marina Bay area. There’s also an open air deck right at the top which made for great unblocked views, but it’s quite a small area for an observation deck. I have a feeling this observatory might work better at night when the sound and light show comes on or during special seasons like Christmas when you can see the night lights/decorations from up above.
The $10 ticket apparently also includes a free drink, but I was a little disappointed to note that this only consist of canned drinks, which seemed rather stingy. You can also buy a cup of coffee (do note there’s no sitting area) but really, I think the ticket price (which I thought was quite expensive for a simple experience with a time limit) could cover a cup of coffee. No big issue, just my two cents.
[Update in April 2024: Please note that I visited the Supertree Observatory in January 2022. There have been changes since then, so the above paragraph is no longer accurate! Currently, there is a Janice Wong cafe inside the observatory with seating, which sounds like a great idea, I’ll likely check it out one of these days!]
